Kayla F. Wheeler
Kayla F. Wheeler is an Associate in the Los Angeles office of Murchison & Cumming, LLP, focusing her practice on products liability and premises liability. Kayla’s portfolio of clients includes school districts, public entities, and a well-recognized company in the micro mobility industry. Her approach to law combines analytical precision and creative problem-solving, managing complex cases with a methodical mindset akin to dissecting and reassembling intricate puzzles to meet her clients’ unique needs. Kayla's critical thinking, ability to implement efficient systems, and collaborative spirit make her an invaluable team member, as she consistently steps up to support her colleagues and deliver exceptional legal results.
From a young age, Kayla dreamed of becoming a professional singer, captivated by the artistry, creativity, and influence of the entertainment industry. That dream hit a high note—and quickly fell flat—when she realized she couldn’t carry a tune to save her life. But this revelation helped her see that her real passion was inspiring change and making an impact, much like artists do. Around the same time, major legal cases in the media sparked her interest in advocacy, ultimately leading her to pursue a career in law. Her unique ability to blend creativity with critical thinking sets her apart and drives her success in the legal field. Kayla thrives in an environment where she bridges active legal work with mentoring and consulting in the entertainment industry, fulfilling her aspiration to empower others while making a meaningful impact in her field.
Before joining Murchison & Cumming, Kayla served as a Staff Attorney at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, handling every aspect of her clients’ cases, from discovery to settlement. Kayla honed her adaptability and quick thinking skills as a substitute teacher, traits she brings to her legal practice, and her aspiration to one day, teach pre-law courses to high school students.
A graduate of Syracuse University College of Law, Kayla excelled academically while interning with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and holding a position as Academic Consultant at Syracuse University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, mentoring young women in leadership development programs. She earned her bachelor’s degree with honors in African American Studies and Public Affairs from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Dedicated to community service, Kayla still volunteers with Legal Aid’s Tenant Rights Clinic and served on the Eviction Defense Workforce Defense Program Advisory Committee with Los Angeles Consumer and Business Affairs, and held leadership roles with the Afrikan Education Project at UCLA. An accomplished speaker, Kayla has served on panels and delivered the keynote address at the Mt. San Antonio’s 2019 Transfer Celebration.
Outside of the office, Kayla is an avid hiker who loves exploring challenging trails and spending time with family and friends. Whether hosting barbecues or enjoying weekend getaways, she is deeply committed to connecting with others and positively impacting her community.
