Murchison & Cumming Welcomes Associate to Los Angeles Office

Murchison & Cumming, LLP is pleased to announce Refugio Ortega-Carrillo has joined the Los Angeles office as an Associate. He holds a B.A. in History with a minor in Humanities and Law & Political Science from University of California, Irvine and earned his law degree at Loyola Law School. Before attending law school, Refugio earned his paralegal certificate and worked on various litigation matters, including aiding the representation of financial institutions.

While at Loyola Law School, Refugio was a judicial extern to the Honorable Sheri Bluebond in the Central District of California. During his externship, he refined his research and writing abilities by drafting and preparing various bench memoranda on motions for summary judgment, default judgment, and evidentiary objections. In law school, Refugio worked in mass tort under JPA Fire Team at a personal injury and employment firm in Los Angeles. He also served on the executive board of La Raza De Loyola.

In May 2020, from their apartment on 39th street, Refugio and his friends created 39th & Co., an organization centered around giving back and paying it forward. In a series of Zoom sessions and articles, the team helped remote students navigate a post-COVID world. The organization awarded laptops, iPads, and mentorship opportunities to support the community.
