Murchison & Cumming's Bankruptcy Team to Speak on USLAW Client Conference Panel

Murchison & Cumming (M&C) attorneys Jean M. Lawler and Jacqueline Nguyen, along with guests Renée Benjamin, Senior Counsel for California Portland Cement Company, and John Taylor, Director of Houlihan Lokey, will be speaking on panels for the Fall 2009 USLAW Network Client Conference at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, September 24 through 26.

Managing Partner and Chair of the Business Transactions and Insurance Law practice groups, Ms. Lawler is also Chair of the Bankruptcy practice group, of which Ms. Nguyen is a member. They will be speaking on issues that may arise when a party to pending litigation commences a bankruptcy case, as part of the bankruptcy panel. The panel will discuss topics such as the effect of the automatic stay on litigation, the procedures for removal and remand of cases under the Bankruptcy Code and when jury trials can occur in bankruptcy.

Ms. Benjamin, who also serves as President of the Association of Corporate Counsel's Southern California Chapter (ACCA), will also participate in the business litigation panel, presenting a corporate perspective on the impact of bankruptcy on businesses and how business practices may shift in the face of bankruptcy. Mr. Taylor, who serves as Director in the Financial Advisory Services practice of Houlihan Lokey and who is a frequent speaker for nationally recognized organizations, will speak on the transactional panel of the conference.
